Giovanni (John) was born on July 16, 1904. According to his mother Giovanina's passport, he was born in Favara, in the province of Girgenti, Sicily, Italy. His family moved to Adrian, Pennsylvania where his father, Salvatore worked as a miner. Giovanni died in Adrian at the age of 2, on August 27, 1906. From the early 1980s through 2003, several attempts have been made
to locate the cemetery and exact site where Giovanni was buried. A former
local funeral director's
records displayed at the Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania Museum show
burial information, including "Unknown" persons from the early
1900s, including ethnic information of the deceased, but not the names.
With the help of people associated with cemeteries and Catholic churches
in the Adrian area, it appears that John was buried
in the Adrian Roman Catholic cemetery.
